To create the pillow:
- Place the fusible side of the 8-1/2” x 12-1/2” Fusible Fleece rectangles against the wrong side of the coordinating fabric rectangles and fuse.
2. Place fused rectangles right sides together and stitch around all four sides with a ¼” seam allowance, leaving a 3” gap for turning. Clip corners.
3. Turn right side out through gap and carefully push out corners.
4. Insert desired amount of Fiber Fill into the gap.
5. Pin opening closed and slip stitch to secure.
To create the handle:
6. Center the 2” x 7” Fusible Fleece rectangle on the wrong side of the 4” x 8” rectangle and fuse.
7. Press rectangle in half lengthwise. Open and fold long raw edges in to meet the center crease. Press. Refold on center crease and pin.
8. Fold short ends in by ½” and pin.
9. Topstitch around all four sides with an 1/8” seam allowance, or stitch design as desired.
To prepare pillow pocket:
10. Fold one short end of the 11” x 15” rectangle by ½” and press. Fold in by another ½” and press. Topstitch to secure.
11. Fold remaining three edges in by ¼” and press. Fold in by a ½” and press. Pin. Set aside.
To prepare blanket:
12. Fold one long edge and two short edges in by ½” and press. Fold in by another ½” and press. Topstitch around all three sides with a zig zag stitch to secure.
13. One long side should still show the raw edge.
14. Set aside.
To prepare nap mat:
15. Center Flex-Foam on wrong side of exterior rectangle and quilt as desired. (If using Flex-Foam 1-Sided Fusible, center, fuse and then quilt as desired.) Set aside.
16. Center pillow pocket rectangle 4” in from the top edge of the interior rectangle. Pin in place and stitch around 3 sides, leaving the short stitched end open.
17. Center handle 4” in from the top edge of the exterior rectangle. Pin in place and stitch a 1” box around both edges (or simply secure with a few lines of stitching.)
Name appliqué: (optional)
18. Print out name in block letters in desired font in reverse.
19. Trace letters onto gridded backing of EZ-Steam II and rough cut around all letters.
20. Remove white packing backing, finger press EZ-Steam II to the wrong side of the appliqué fabric, and press with a dry iron.
21. Cut out fabric rectangle that is slightly larger than the letters. Cut coordinating rectangle of EZ-Steam II. Remove white backing and finger press sticky side to the wrong side of the fabric. Press with a dry iron.
22. Cut out letters and carefully remove grid backing.
23. Finger press letters onto the right side of the fabric backing rectangle.
24. Cut around all four sides of the rectangle with pinking shears.
25. Remove grid backing and finger press entire piece to the exterior nap mat rectangle, just below the handle and fuse.
Assemble nap mat:
26. Place the exterior rectangle right side up on a work surface.
27. With wrong side up, line up the raw edge of the blanket with the right raw edge of the exterior rectangle. The bottom short edge should be 1” in from the bottom of the exterior rectangle.
28. Fold left side of blanket in so that full blanket is contained within the borders of the exterior rectangle.
29. Place the interior rectangle on top, with right side down. Align all raw edges and pin.
30. Cut two 18” lengths of elastic.
31. Fold in half with RST. Place in between top raw edge of the exterior and interior rectangles, with raw edges aligned, 4” in for either side. Pin in place.
32. Sew around all four sides, leaving an 8” gap on the long side that does not include the blanket for turning. Clip corners
33. Turn right side out through gap and carefully push out corners.
34. Fold in seam allowance at the gap and pin.
35. Press blanket toward the interior and pin along the long interior edges. Straighten all seams and pin to secure.
36. Topstich around all four sides with a zig zag stitch, capturing the blanket in the seam.
37. Insert pillow into pillow pocket, fold blanket in, roll nap mat up from the bottom, and pull the elastic around the ends to secure!
